About

Hello, and welcome!

I’m the Team Leader for Social Media Club Austin, which was the 14th local chapter to launch worldwide. We’re part of a global movement — some call it a revolution — of like-minded people from diverse industries and professions. What binds us together is a common interest in emerging media.

In trying to define ourselves, we came up with this tagline: “part think tank, part curiosity, all new media.” At the rate new media is becoming old media, however, we may have to rethink that phrase!

The vision we’re trying to convey is this:

  1. Think Tank. We are a peer-to-peer knowledge sharing organization. While we may have guest speakers or panel presentations at our meetings, the focus remains on brainstorming and idea sharing in small groups. We believe that out of these meetings strong relationships will form that may lead to collaborations for the creation of new technologies or business ventures.
  1. Curiosity. Our members share a natural curiosity about our culture, our interaction with technology, and what this means for the creation and distribution of media in the digital age.
  1. New Media. All of us are involved in one aspect of social media or another. Some are creators of new technologies and some are users. Some members are just getting started with blogging, vlogging, podcasting, etc., while others are pros.

We invite you to join us and experience Social Media Club Austin for yourself. Our meetings are open, but you do need to register in advance. Check the sidebar on the main page for a link to our event management site.
